Renewable Energy

Goal

Mitigate climate change and reduce carbon footprint through renewable energy adoption.

Actions

  • Wind Energy: India Cements believes that the utilisation and expansion of renewable energy is the way forward in sustainable energy management practices. India Cements has made significant investments in wind energy and have wind farms in Palladam and Kaithar, Tamil Nadu.
  • Waste Heat Recovery: Integrating WHRS in our production process is one of the avenues where our organisation is focusing in the Renewable energy sector. We have a WHRS system integrated with our cement production at Vishnupuram which is a major contributor to our renewable energy initiatives.
  • Expansion plans: We plan to establish a new 8 MW WHRS at our Chilamkuru plant in Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh, in the current Fiscal year as part of our renewable energy initiatives. Moreover, we have partnered with JSW Energy to establish a 25MW solar power unit that will supply power to our Sankari plant, Dalavoi plant, and Chennai Grinding Unit.

Impact

  • Renewable energy (WHRS and Wind Energy) contributes to 7.2% of our total power consumption thereby directly offsetting our CO2 emissions.
  • The wind energy produced from our wind farms alone contributes more than 7.4% of our total energy consumption in Tamil Nadu.
  • Our WHRS systems generate renewable electricity that accounts for around 5% of our total electricity consumption.
